America, The Bible and The Dream


America, The Bible and The Dream

 

I just watched a program called “The Bibles influence on America”, which was very interesting and informative, however one glaring question came to mind and I couldn’t help but think, what about today? The narrator spoke of the men who established this experiment of ours and how their lives and the bible were intertwined. You will never see any of this in any school, not one, not ever. The origins, the people and the events that led to the founding of this country is no longer considered required learning, it is considered to be something that happened long ago, forgotten and not relevant today. The men responsible are now thought to be evil “white men”. Forget that what they gave us is a country unlike any on earth and that their love of God translated into love of country and declared “…that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,”

So what about current day, does the bible and the reverence of God have influence on America or the men that we now entrust with the responsibility of protecting and preserving the ideals and origins of this once great nation? The answer is obvious, just look around and see what is going on and what has been going on for the past 50 years. The answer is a resounding NO, our nation’s leaders and our current government bears little or no resemblance to what originally defined us as a nation. Any influence the bible may have had on our founders and the ideals they put forth as a result have long been forgotten, replaced or ignored. Today we have few if any true statesmen, Godlessness and corruption are the order of the day. The commandments which were once looked upon as a standard that all Americans respected and tried to live by are now replaced with Liberal doctrine that teaches what used to be considered as moral and patriotic is false and not the way we should live our lives. Our leaders and those in the public arena of influence and ideas are for the most part immoral and shameful in the way they conduct themselves. God is laughed at by them and those of us that do speak of God and love of country are called kooks, radicals, and a host of other names by them, which the agents of (mis)information use over and over to legitimize their Godless claims and their treasonous and immoral behavior.

All one need do is look at what is happening to our nation right now. Who are the ones trying to bring back civility, common sense, and the values that once defined us as a nation? Who are the ones trying to bring us together as a people so we can once again be the great nation we once were, those so many years ago and who are the one tearing us apart, dividing us and telling us that we have no alternative but to turn to them and the government they have created for us. They tell us to trust them as they befool the American people and give handouts to the very people they have been deceiving and have kept in shackles for a generation and longer.

The American dream that once was and any hope of it becoming a reality for all Americans ever again has been systematically ripped from our grasp, beaten, murdered and buried.  We now have a government that is redefining and reshaping America and our way of life. This is not so difficult to comprehend. If you can be intellectually honest with yourself for just one minute you will see that this has been going on for some time now and it only gets worse as the days and week go by.

When I was a child in the 1960’s I would watch a program on PBS called “The Great American Dream Machine”, it was a good show and I still remember in one episode they were interviewing people in Europe about the American dream. The segment concluded with the comment that Europeans thought that the only difference between a rich American and a poor American was that a poor American washed their own Cadillac. I remember thinking as a young lad, how cool is that! Well, it may have been that way for awhile, but it had to end. Sometimes things change for the better, sometimes for the worse.  America has turned away from the things that once made us a great nation and a prosperous people. We have turned our backs on God, morality, civility, patriotism, and we have turned over our sovereignty to those who do not have our best interest in mind.

Can we get back to the Godly roots that founded this country, the promise of prosperity and the hope of a dream?

As it is stated in the words our “Declaration of Independence”:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:...”

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”

This is our history and to many Americans it still means something. It is the reason so many people throughout our short history have risked so much and given up so much to arrive at our shores. Unfortunately this has been forgotten and disgraced along with many of the other historical documents that this country was founded on. Now our shores are ravaged by molesters and we are losing our identity as Americans. Lady Liberty has been raped and no one is coming to her defense, the barbarians are at the gate and we have our heads down texting on our “smart phones”.

Maybe the American Dream is dead, but maybe we can resurrect it. It will take all Americans, ALL, to work together, as one people, as one nation under God, but it just might be possible. It might have been a dream, but it was our dream, we fought for it and we earned it. The dream was alive once, but now it is just a memory, maybe it can be again. Is the return of America worth it? Is the promise of hope, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness worth the effort? That question has yet to be answered.
